Description
This mid-19th century two-story building features a cornice, and the side gables are topped with knob-shaped finials. The interior still showcases one of the few remaining examples of wooden partition walls finished with lime plaster. The property was once owned by the De Lannoy family, known for their drugstore ‘Botica Central’ on the Breedestraat 43-45. Luis de Lannoy (1918-1971) participated in the Dutch resistance during World War II while studying in the Netherlands, alongside the well-known war heroes George Maduro and Boy Ecury. It remains uncertain whether he ever resided in the house on Consciëntiesteeg.
The house was divided into two floors for separate use, with commercial space on the ground floor and residential space above. In the 1990s, Fundashon Kas Popular (FKP) purchased the property with the intention of renovating it and relocating the then current resident. However, the house was already deteriorating and plagued by leaks, eventually collapsing before it could be restored. In 2023, the property was acquired by Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao, with plans for restoration set to commence in 2024.
