Description
This modest home was constructed by the sailor George van Grieken between 1884 and 1901. In the first half of the 19th century, the land was part of a larger estate owned by Anthony Mathey, an individual of Corsican origin, who also owned a nearby shipyard at Sint Annabaai, still known as the Mathey Shipyard.
The house was tucked away behind two other houses, which no longer exist. The funnel-shaped gable reflects an older architectural style popular in the first half of the 19th century.
