Description
This modest single-story dwelling features a striking façade with a profiled low-pitched gable that somewhat resembles a classical pediment. The blocked flat dripstones above the door and windows are also quite unique. A characteristic of traditional island architecture is the wooden louvers in the door and windows, which optimize ventilation and block out the sun.
Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao purchased this property in 2020 from the heir of Norma Juana Simon, who had owned it since 1962. A full restoration will take place in the coming years. The project will integrate this property with neighboring Villa Malakoff at Gasthuisstraat 14 – 16 and Gasthuisstraat 18-20.
