IJzerstraat 27

Description

This charming small home belonged to Francisca Maria Monsanto, who earned her living by making cigars. Originally, it served as an annex building of the neighboring ‘Bellevue’ property. In 1865, she purchased the house and made it her own. She undertook renovations with a mortgage in 1869. When Francisca Maria Monsanto passed away at the age 66 in 1878, she left the house to the three Esser sisters. Two of them, unmarried seamstresses, continued to reside in it.

The house has a notable tall front, featuring neoclassical elements like decorative trim and corner details.
