Description
These annex buildings were once part of the former hospital established in 1855. Nine small houses were constructed for the hospital, in addition to a washhouse, a bleaching area, a mortuary, and a cistern. A well was also dug on the premises. The small annexes housed the patients, while the mansion on the property (IJzerstraat 64) was the residence of the nuns and the female staff.
After the hospital relocated, the buildings were sold and made available for rent. House number 70 was occupied by a dockworker, who was the father of Dr. Alejandro (Jandi) Felipa Paula (1937-2018), an academic who served as the director of the National Archive and as the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles.
