Description

Isaac Baiz constructed this mansion, adorned with classical corner blocks and a cornice, in 1881. Named “Mon Repos” (My Rest), it was the residence of Isaac and later his son Daniel. The Baiz family immigrated from Spain to the Caribbean in the early 19th century and suffered many trials as pirates captured their ship. Upon settling in Curaçao, Isaac, a merchant, established the firm “Baiz e Hijos” with his two sons.

In 1941, the house was purchased by dentist Jean Jacques Debrot. After studying dentistry in New York and practicing there for a period, Debrot settled in Curaçao. He gained international recognition for his method of jaw restoration.

In 2002, Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao acquired the property and initiated extensive restoration efforts to revive its original state.
