Description

In 1737, Dorothea Brugman, widow of Willem van Uytrecht, received a permit to build on this lot, which once bordered directly on the water. She soon completed a grand mansion in the prevalent Curacao Baroque style, known for its distinctive curved lines. Her daughter, Sijbrecht, inherited the property in 1778 and added several buildings. After being briefly owned by Charles August Barron de Larrey following 1819, his widow, Petronella Elisabeth Coerman, added a vaulted attic ceiling in building #11-13 in 1835, reportedly for the visits of Prince Willem Hendrik, a brother of King Willem III of the Netherlands.

In 1845, Joseph Agostini bought the estate, which subsequently became known as “kurá Agostini” (Agostini’s yard). For his unmarried daughter Gertrude, Aunt Tudi, he had house number 5 built.

Agostini’s descendants owned the estate until Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao purchased the property in 1967. The buildings at De Rouvilleweg 5-13 were restored and repurposed; however, finding a tenant proved to be a challenge. The building was eventually rented to the Department of Trade, Industry, and Employment for a period of time. It is currently leased to a beer brewery.
