Penstraat 041-45

Description

Characteristics:

Two identical small one-storey structures with ridges parallel to street and separated by a narrow entrance to back yard. Rectangular floor plans covered with gable roofs enclosed by funnel-shaped gables with 19th century top ends. Front façades with two alternating doors and windows for each structure.

 

Monument value:

Architectural historical and cultural historical value as examples of sober low-cost dwellings with characteristics of 19th century traditional architecture. Cultural historical value as part of the old built-up area of Penstraat which consisted both of luxurious mansions and modest houses. Cultural historical value because of the fogon and fornu (nr.45) Monumental ensemble value because the structures are part of a complex of modest dwellings with the same characteristics.
