Description

Characteristics

L-shaped complex consisting of two elongated blocks with former row-houses. Interconnected one-storey structures with gable roofs and rectangular floor plan. Connected saddle roofs with ridges parallel to Balisteeg. Red roof tiles. Southernmost saddle roof, connecting to Penstraat 45, has a sloping end on south side. The other saddle roofs are enclosed by funnel-shaped gables with a 19th century top end. Front facades have doors and windows. At the back, a few chimneys of former cooking places (fogon).

 

Monument value:

Architectural historical and cultural historical value as examples of modest low-cost dwellings in traditional style of the 19th century; cultural historical value as part of the old built-up area of Penstraat which consisted both of luxurious mansions and modest houses;  ensemble value as the structures are part of a complex of dwellings with fogons.
