Description

Hendrik Muskus, better known as Shon Còchi, along with his wife Shon Annie and their seven children, moved into their newly built home in 1922. Muskus was very successful as a hardware store owner and actively involved in the Sociedad Bolivariana de Curaçao. He sold the building around 1950. Initially, it was still being used for residential purposes, but a few years later Pension Ida became more of a brothel than a boarding house. In 2002, the Curaçao Heritage Foundation bought and restored the building. It was returned to its original sober, grey color, paying homage to the Scandinavian roots of the Muskus family. In 2009, a branch of the Central Bank opened the coin museum in the building. It is currently in use as the office of the Electoral Council of Curaçao.
